What can your home town do with digital twins?
We are sitting on a goldmine of data, but how do we go about using it intelligently? Digital twinning is a technology that helps us harness data to better understand and answer issues. A digital twin is a virtual replica, which helps to simulate, monitor and develop. Simona Orzan is a lecturer-researcher at Fontys ICT and deals with its application to urban issues.
Den Bosch
Erdinç Saçan hosts a discussion on what a digital twin actually is and how to deploy it for a Smart City, for example his hometown of Den Bosch. Digital twins could potentially help to work out crowd management, to prepare city planning, but also to measure air quality. The possibilities are endless, but what is cost-effective and feasible?
Modelling
Many issues do not require an absolute digital twin, a complete representation, but an applied representation. A model of the relevant reality. Simona is working on several projects exploring its possibilities. You can hear more about that in the 2nd episode of Updates Available Online.
Updates Available Online
Updates Available Online is part of the knowledge sessions at the Fontys ICT InnovationLab at Strijp-T, titled Updates Available. In these, experts are invited to share their knowledge, but also to hear what is going on within specific themes. More information can be found here.
