Project description
In this collaborative project, Fontys ICT students were tasked with developing robot software for a RoboCup@Home robot being designed/built by Students at IMT (Instituto Mauá de Tecnologia) in São Paulo, Brazil.
Context
RoboCup@Home is an international competition that challenges teams to develop innovative robotics solutions for domestic and service environments. With a focus on real-world applications, it emphasizes tasks like object recognition, human-robot interaction, and autonomous navigation in unstructured environments. Our group project, in collaboration with IMT in Brazil, aims to develop advanced navigation software to a robot that IMT is working on to efficiently and safely navigate dynamic spaces—an essential component for success in RoboCup@Home. This partnership not only enhances technical capabilities but also fosters cross-cultural teamwork.
Results
- Project Initiation: Successfully launched the project in collaboration with IMT, Brazil.
- Research on ROS2: Conducted in-depth research into ROS2 and explored its potential for navigation and robotics applications.
- Focus on Navigation: Prioritized navigation as the central aspect of the software development process.
- Digital Twin Creation: Developed a digital twin of the robot’s navigating base, adhering to the specifications provided by IMT.
- Software Handoff Preparation: Structured the software to ensure it is user-friendly and easily adaptable for the next team to build upon.
