A-symmetric VR dungeon-crawler
Project description
For this project we were tasked with creating an engaging VR dungeon crawler game where there are some people inside of VR and some outside of VR. This game is made to explore ways to create engaging interactions/competition between the two sides in a balanced way.
We did this by creating a maze where the VR players had to find and retrieve an artifact while the players outside of VR could spawn obstacles and enemies to stall them until the timer runs out.
Context
This project is for Enversed, so the game will be played by families, business outings, etc. People who don't have much experience in gaming will be playing.
Results
We were able to create a functioning game that players can compete in, we tested various ways to balance the games gameplay and got a nice end project. Once we understood the core principles of the project we created a minimal viable product to show a proof of concept. Then we iterated based off of feedback with constant new features and fixes.
At previous demo markets we succesfully demonstrated the project by letting people play the game. Especially people with little gaming experience gave useful insights considering that was the target audience.
About the project group
Our group had a very diverse background, some people are in early semesters and some in later semesters. But in general most of us didn't have much experience with creating games.
Each person spent a different amount of time on the project, but with clear communication we were able to make this work.
