Project description
Can we create an educational (video) game which gives visually impaired children a way to learn Geography in an interactive and effective way?
Context
Visio and Games for Health are two organizations at the forefront of innovation and inclusivity, each addressing unique societal needs. Visio specializes in providing support for individuals who are partially sighted or blind, offering services such as research, counselling, rehabilitation, education, and assisted living. Their mission is to focus on possibilities rather than limitations, ensuring respect for clients' choices and enhancing their quality of life through a personal and results-oriented approach. On the other hand, Games for Health is a pioneering organization that bridges the worlds of healthcare and game development. Since its establishment in 2011, it has facilitated collaboration among healthcare professionals, researchers, and game developers to explore how gaming can drive advancements in health and well-being. With its innovative mindset and goal-oriented philosophy, Games for Health continues to create impactful solutions that address modern healthcare challenges. Together, these organizations reflect a commitment to improving lives through innovation, collaboration, and a focus on empowerment.
Results
In the end we ended up with a playable game in which you are able to learn and test yourself in Dutch Topography. You are able to learn by exploring the country, learn the capitals with flash cards and test yourself on the capitals of the provinces with our quiz (open and multiple choice questions).
This game is made for visually impaired people (mainly students aged 10-12). So the game heavily relies on speech of the province and capital names. Therefor the User Interface is less exiting to look at.
