Future of Your Face
Project description
Our design challenge:
Design an interactive experience to enable 15–17-year-olds in the Night of the Nerds event to learn about facial recognition and its abuses and dangers in an engaging and relatable way.
Context
The project will be used within the Night of the Nerds event – an annual technology convention held in the region.
Results
We created a VR game in Escape Simulator, a popular escape room maker tool, that tells the story of a person being threatened with criminal prosecution because of faulty evidence obtained via facial recognition. We use the themes of AI, deepfakes and other related technologies to show just how easily they can be abused and lead to significant consequences.
About the project group
We are a pretty diverse group – two of us are exchange students from other European countries, another is from the Dutch Caribbean. However, we all share a passion for creating experiences for ourselves and others to enjoy.
Previous to this project, we worked in pairs to create another game, of which the experiences making them we brought into this project.
We spent 7 weeks working on this project – 3 for concepting, 4 for development. We used a Kanban board-based approach to divide tasks among ourselves, while working from separate Git branches.
