A casual experience controlled by a physical dolphin controller, that's fun to control and will inspire kids to be interested in technology.
Control a robot dolphin with physical dolphin controller inside the Ontdekfabriek and swim around inside a huge ocean and explore different areas of the deep blue ocean. Engage in different microgames to improve your score. Find various objects to customize Dolf the dolphin.
Design Challenge:
Design a game played with the dolphin controller to enable children age 6 to 12 who go to Ontdekfabriek to have fun and learn in a way that engages them and stimulates their curiosity about technology.
Context
The project is based on a movie made by the Ontdekfabriek called "the uitvinders". Inside the ontdek fabriek there is a huge physical dolphin controller which 3 childeren at the same time can control in order to play the game while visiting the Ontdekfabriek. The project is supposed to be a fun side activity to do during the visit.
Results
For this semester a various amount of new gameplay elements are introduced like the micro event system that changes the standard gameloop a tiny bit periodically to make the game more engaging. There are also a variety of items added inside the game world that the player can collect to customize dolf the dolphin. Besides new gameplay there are also various improvements made on performance and the gameworld.
