Project description
A study has been carried out on behalf of Vion Foodgroup into authentication methods to improve identity management for employees on the production line.
Context
Vion is a food processing company with multiple locations and thousands of employees. Currently, there is no proper logging and monitoring on the production line, as employees do not use personal accounts. Vion wants to change this by implementing a fast, easy to use, and secure authentication method for employees on the production line.
Results
After interviewing the stakeholders and employees (end-users), investigating the current system structure and doing research on existing solutions, we found a solution that suits Vion. All employees use a NFC-tag to open doors and log their hours.
We advised Vion to link the NFC-tags of employees to the software used on the production lines, and add NFC-readers to the systems. This allows the employees to authenticate in an easy, fast and hygienic way.
Methodology
We started by interviewing multiple stakeholders about the problem that they wanted to solve, and asking them about the current infrastructure, used systems, and other company details. When we had a good view of the problem and wanted solution, we went to one of the companies locations, and got a tour through the facility, were we also asked some of the end-users about their thoughts, ideas and requirements for possible solutions.
With all this information, we started doing research on possible solutions. We compared some possible solutions against each other, and worked out the solution that was the best fit. We presented this solution to Vion, worked out some questions and feedback, and delivered the report.
