Project description
We were given the following description at the start of the project: description:
"Eduframe is a student information system. With such systems, class attendance of students can be tracked. The student attendance in Eduframe is only usable on big screen devices and not on mobile devices. We would like to see a proof of concept of a mobile app to track the attendance."
Context
The project context is focused on education. Currently a software tool called Eduframe developed by the company Drieam could only be used on a desktop device and wasn't responsive to handle smartphones. Our job was to create a mobile solution for both iOS and Android that would solve this issue.
Results
Throughout the duration of the project, our team successfully achieved several significant outcomes, resulting in a valuable mobile solution for Eduframe. The primary focus was to address the limitation of the existing desktop-only Eduframe software and create a mobile app that would enable teachers to track student attendance on their smartphones.
The most prominent outcome was the development of a mobile application for both iOS and Android platforms. To ensure efficiency and consistency, we adopted a unified codebase approach, allowing us to share code between the two platforms. This decision not only simplified maintenance and updates but also ensured that teachers using either operating system could seamlessly access Eduframe's features on their mobile devices.
User interface (UI) design played a crucial role in the project's success. Understanding that teachers were the primary users of the mobile app, we dedicated considerable effort to creating an intuitive and user-friendly UI. By conducting extensive user testing and incorporating user feedback, we validated the effectiveness of our UI design. Teachers found it easy to navigate the app, track student attendance, and perform other relevant tasks. This validation from our target audience reinforced the value and usability of the mobile application.
Integration with the main Eduframe project was another key achievement. By leveraging the existing API provided by Drieam, the company behind Eduframe, we seamlessly connected the mobile app to the core functionalities of the system. This integration ensured real-time synchronization of data between the mobile app and the desktop version of Eduframe. Consequently, teachers could access and update attendance records on both platforms, guaranteeing data consistency and enhancing their convenience and flexibility in managing student attendance.
About the project group
Three of our team members have followed the software fontys education and one of us has followed the UI program. We are from different semesters. The project duration lasted throughout the whole semester (5 months).
