Project description
Main research question: Which improvements are needed to increase the usability of the document editor?
We then break this question down into several subquestions.
- How do the business engineers experience the current situation of the document editor?
- Which pains and gains do business engineers experience while modelling a document in Blueriq Encore?
- What additional needs do business engineers have that are currently not fulfilled while modelling a document in Blueriq Encore?
- What are design principles and good practices that will enhance user experience?
- How do other solutions compare to Blueriq’s document editor?
- How can we benchmark the current system with our solution?
Context
In this group project, we are tasked by Blueriq to redesign the document editor in Blueriq Encore. According to the about us page on Blueriq’s website, Blueriq was founded in 1995, it’s a company that helps improve customer experience for different organisations by developing unique solutions combining technology, expertise and approach (Blueriq, n.d.). Blueriq uses its own model-driven platform to achieve its goals. This platform consists of a runtime that runs models that are created in the integrated development environment (IDE) that is called Blueriq Studio. Blueriq Studio however only runs in Internet Explorer, which is deprecated. Therefore, Blueriq Studio is currently being rebuilt to run in mainstream browsers such as Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge. The name of this successor of Blueriq Studio is Blueriq Encore. Similar to Studio, Blueriq Encore has many editors, of which the document editor is one of them. Blueriq has asked us to increase the usability of the document editor to increase the user adoption of Blueriq Encore.
Results
We came up with two deliverables; an advice report and our high-fidelity interactive prototype of our proposed design. We came up with this after tonnes of research, ideating, designing, and testing.
About the project group
We are semester 6 Fontys students undertaking ICT Media Design. On this semester we were tasked by Blueriq to fix the usability and UX of Encore's (their product) document editor. We spent 12 weeks (excluding holidays) conducting research, designing, testing, and iterating. We worked with the design thinking method while using the CMD methods.
