Project description
In 2023 a new law in The Netherlands states that students at primary school need to have a least 2 hours of physical education each week. As a result physical exercise teachers have to be in the gym hall for a lot more.Physical exercise teachers already have a lot of problems related to tinnitus, hearing loss and other problems for being in a gym hall for too long. Due to this problem we received the following design challenge: How can physical exercise teachers in primary school get more insight into the sound levels and stress during the class?
Context
Sorama intends to improve the quality of life for all people, wherever they are. They contribute to a better-sounding insight. The visualisation of sound enables efficient and effective reduction of unwanted noise. Better-sounding products and environmental silence improve the quality of life.
Results
The most important outcome of this product is to understand whether PE teachers can comprehend information about high sound levels in the gym halls and their impact on their hearing. We are validating this by testing our proof of concept interactive prototype to understand whether visual cues displayed in our app make the user aware of the impact of high sound levels on their hearing. The TR Level positioning of the app is currently a proof of concept interactive prototype.
About the project group
The ICT & Media Design profile has built a smartwatch app that helps users become aware of the high sound levels caused in the gym and the impact they have on their hearing & stress. Our group consists of people with diverse skillsets and knowledge. We have UI/UX designers, UX researchers & front-end developers. Our project lasted for 12 weeks from March 14 to June 14. We used the design thinking process in our 2-week design sprints and used CMD research methods for user research.
