Project description
We need to design a digital version of the PMO board game to enable managers in Fontys to practice their portfolio management skills by strategically assessing projects so they can experience how portfolio management works.
Context
Fontys PMO helps Fontys managers with making strategic changes. For example, what education might look like in the future how the IT systems should function. They want to do a lot of things, but they do not have the budget or human resources for every project, so they must make strategic choices.
If Fontys PMO chooses certain programs, they help program managers execute these programs properly. They help compose a portfolio, training them to do it correctly, doing some government-related training (who spends what money) and continuity training (how they continue afterward)
The Fontys PMO game allows managers to experience how portfolio management works. They have 3 “categories” to divide budgets and projects between. Each project has a description of what it entails, the amount and types of people needed to realize the project, and the budget required for the project. For each category, players must divide the projects and discuss why certain projects go where and what projects should be canceled or discarded.
Results
The game in its existing state is more like a training. The training is done in a group format, whereas the game we made is played alone. This change drastically impacted. We designed game elements supporting the existing training goals, making the game fun. The game is developed in Unity.
