Project description
This project is about a social problem that is the result of our individualistic and network society. We researched what people motivates to present a facade of perfection in social media and public spaces.
Context
People often filter their lives for the outside world, thinking they have to put on a mask of perfection in order to be accepted. But research shows that this constant need to present a flawless image can take a toll on people's well-being. With this project we want to show people the importants to remember that it's okay to be yourself, and that authenticity and vulnerability are valuable qualities. By being authentic and showing our true selves, we can connect with others in a real and meaningful way. It's important to take breaks from this pressure to be perfect and to recognise that the beauty within is just as important as the image we present to the world.
Results
From this research we've created Misty, a tech artwork that represents someone that hides their true self and only says perfect things. It is a symbolic work with a simple and direct meaning. The exterior of Misty represents the perfect but colourless side and the interior represents the valuable and beautiful side. With sound, mist, LED strip animations and a 3D printed hart, we want to get the story across in a playful way.
About the project group
We are two students from Open Learning & Delta, and we made this project for our 7th semester. In our study we were mostly focussing on UX/UI design and Front-end development, but we always wanted to create a complete tech artwork. So, in the second half of this semester there was room for a project like this and we started working on it.
