Project description
How can plants attract and guide visitors at Natlab? Our answer is an interactive IoT system that allows plants to chat with people, tell jokes and even give them directions to see a movie.
Context
Plant Pal is a comprehensive IoT system which helps users monitor and take care of their plants in a fun way. The core of the Plant Pal system is OpenRemote, an open source IoT platform that simplifies the communication between Plant Pal's different elements.
OpenRemote takes input from premade Plant Sensors and transforms the data. The Voice Assistant and Dashboard then load the transformed data and deliver it to the user in an understandable and readable way.
Results
The proof-of-concept of the system has been demonstrated to main project stakeholders (both to OpenRemote CEO and Natlab director). One of the most important outcomes was validating the project concept with Natlab visitors to determine the best course of action and narrow the possibilities of the minimal viable prototype. The current project can be assessed at TRL 4, as the technology is close to the correct form factor and many of the systems features have been tested in a relevant operational environment. However, it is not there yet.
About the project group
We are a project group of four consisting of 3 software students and 1 media and interaction student. 2 of us are in semester 6, 1 is in semester 4 and 1 in semester 3.
This semester we focuses on technology, software and media/interaction outcomes.
