Project description
We were asked by Infiniot to create an application for the energy market in the Netherlands. In this application users could buy and sell energy, get an insight on their energy usage and production, see weather forecasts, get predictions on the energy prices, etc. The project is meant to be a central place for users to see everything related to their energy needs.
Context
The dutch energy market gets more and more consumers every year. More people get solar panels and more people are getting aware of their energy usage and production. It would be great to give these people a place to see all their energy needs. With the transition to renewable energy and consumers becoming “producers”, utility companies must be able to balance their grid: under-capacity can lead to black-outs and over-capacity can lead to grid failure, each leading to fines and extra costs. This project focuses on these problems, and tries to work out a solution.
Results
The biggest result of this project is of course the application we worked on throughout the semester. It is packed with features and also contains a connection to apps that other groups created for the same client.
However, we learnt more than just to build this application. We learned more about the energy market thanks to our client Infiniot and we also got more experience in research and ethical requirements.
About the project group
This project was made with a group of 6 people. We are a mix of students where some have already done previous studies and some who came straight out of highschool to this study. Every group member is dutch speaking, which made our communication very clear during the project. The last 18 weeks we worked every Monday and Thursday from 9am to 4pm on this project in an agile way. We worked in sprints of 3 weeks, where at the end of each sprint we gave a presentation on our proces to our stakeholders. During these 18 weeks we became a close group and had a lot of fun together working on this project. We worked hard to get to this final result and learned a lot along the way.
