Project description
Unit 13 has asked us to improve the "Capture The Flags!" mission that is played in their Laser Tag & Airsoft arena in Sittard. Their current flags are physical flags which has several problems. For instance, the analogue nature of the flags means that they are only evaluated at the end, which causes players to only think about the mission goal just before the end of the match.
Context
Unit 13 hosts indoor Laser Tag & Airsoft events for ages 7 and up in their arena in Sittard.
Their playing fields are designed as lifelike environments and provide even more immersion through realistic missions & extensive use of audio, light & smoke-effects.
Results
We designed IoT connected capture points to replace the analogue flags currently in use. By connecting these capture points to a central system, teams can be given points based on the amount of time they have captured a flag for. By integrating with the system that controls light, audio & smoke -effects at Unit 13, our solution can also trigger effects at important game events during gameplay.
Currently we have two functional capture point boxes which we have evaluated together with the software system during test events at Unit 13. More work is needed to polish the solution though, which is why the project is being picked up by others to turn it into a complete solution.
