Project description
How can we combine data science and external data to provide a quantitative understanding of the barriers associated with energy consumption and in what way can we use these insights firstly to visualize the progress, and if possible, figure out how to improve the process?
Context
In order to prevent the extension of the carbonization of the planet, the governments have imposed fees and restrictions to industries producing large amounts of CO2. Nowadays, with the progression of new technologies, the price of producing renewable energy has drastically decreased. This allows companies that produce electricity to switch to a more profitable and ecological way of generating electricity. In order to have an idea about how the migration should be achieved, an in-depth look in the process from generating to distribution is required. Atos has approached us to visualize this process to gain information and spot problems in the current energy eco-system of the Netherlands. This will give Atos the necessary information to optimize the already existing workflow, which will also decrease the pollution generated by energy factories.
Results
In the end we have created a dashboard that takes data from multiple open-source databases and transforms them into interactive graphs. The dashboard is specifically made for our client Atos to gather information for a potential business lead. The graphs are made interactive by selecting regions and timeframes. Further findings and conclusions will be discussed in the presentation.
About the project group
We are 3 students from different universities and different backgrounds, Pablo and Vlad being international students. We chose the Atos project because we are passionate about decarbonization. During the last semester we have worked hard on providing insights on the energy landscape of the Netherlands.
