Project description
A new online data visualisation tool is being developed for Dutch theatres. Stichting DIP (Digital Information Platform on the Performing Arts) is the platform on which more than 260 affiliated theatres use their data to gain insight into ticket sales, customer information, occupancy rates and visitor loyalty, among other things.
"Design a data visualisation dashboard to allow marketers of theatres to create deeper insights into the information they already have and that can still be obtained."
The final product is a dashboard in which the data of Stichting DIP and its member theatres, is combined with data from third parties. This dashboard contains various visualisations that can be processed in the official dashboard of DIP.
Context
"DIP is a smart analysis and administration tool that provides more insight and streamlines processes within the performing arts. With DIP, you get to know your (potential) audience really well, you conclude smart contracts and you get answers to questions you didn't even know you had" (DIP, 2020).
DIP offers a number of tools that make it easier for a theatre to view insights from sales or audiences. These insights can be used to improve processes and increase sales and audiences.
The DIP tool is an online software tool for viewing data for various target groups. Theatres, artists, marketers and other audiences involved in the theatre can use visualised data to improve sales or performance. All data visualisations are intended to give the target groups of theatres more insight into the information. Different questions can be asked in order to gather the best information. For example, "Who is the target group?" or "What is the education level of the visitors?". This allows artists and theatres to adapt their strategy to this information.
Results
Our most important outcome of this project is the realization of the DIP Powertool dashboard. Almost everything we have worked on this semester can be found in the end product dashboard. In this dashboard all information regarding the mockup data is visualized, in a valuable way for its end users. At the moment we are in the eight phase of the technology readiness level. We are currently implementing and developing the last platform functionalities and will be moving to testing, implementation and launching phase soon.
The final product (the DIP dashboard platform) is realized and verified every week by our project group, stakeholders and school tutors, whose involvement is essential for the improvement of our results. During the weekly stakeholder meeting, we present the advancements made throughout the week. In turn, we get feedback and new ideas to improve our product. Throughout these meetings we validate the functionalities and targets of the dashboard, so we can realize the best possible outcomes.
About the project group
Our project group consists of two Fontys ICT students. Both of us have a background in mediadesign but are currently focused on Business and data science.
Over the semester, our group spent four days a week on the DIP Powertool project. Throughout the project we also actively used an Agile SCRUM project management system. In this system timesheets are logged and new to-do’s, sprints, milestones, retrospectives can be added throughout the project. As of now over 400 working hours have been logged, together we have worked over 800 hours on this project.
