Project description
How can we create a more adaptive and integrative approach to wildlife management that aligns with both the ongoing societal changes and the desire for a nature-inclusive society?
Context
As wildlife populations increase and spread across the Netherlands, including species like wolves, deer, beavers, and wild boars, tensions between humans and wildlife are escalating, leading to various forms of damage and conflict. Simultaneously, societal debates around wildlife management are becoming more polarized, with contrasting views on whether to restrict these populations or adapt to their presence by promoting a more nature-inclusive society. Current wildlife management approaches remain largely traditional and static, lacking strategies that account for the dynamic interactions between humans and wildlife in a densely populated and rapidly changing landscape. There is a pressing need to develop innovative, proactive management methods that focus on co-managing the behaviors of both people and wildlife to support coexistence in this evolving context.
Results
An app which gives users the option to report any interactions with the wild animals provides the most useful data for the research that is being done.
About the project group
For the past 6 months we worked on these two mobile applications which should enhance the research that can be done into the co-existence of humans and wild animals
